Sumter Arnim, DDS
This is the man that sent our founder to Dr. Bass.
In 1959, young Dr. Bob Jones was earnestly searching for something to help his patients. He took a course in periodontology from Dr. Arnim in 1959. Dr. Arnim told Dr. Jones that the retired Dean of the Medical School at Tulane University was telling anyone and everyone who would listen that he had discovered not only the true cause of caries and periodontal disease, but had figured out how to prevent it. Almost 99%, as Dr. Bass put it.
Dr. Arnim was one of the best teachers of dentistry/periodontology ever.
He was instrumental in developing disclosing agents, to try to find out which type of toothbrush is the most effective.
This among many other things.
A true debt of gratitude is owed by the world to this man.

In 1962, Dr. Sumter Arnim published a small booklet, entitled: "Antony van Leeuwoenhoek - The First Periodontist"
He pretty much shoots the idea of mouth wash dead. A fun read.
